Seems like forever since I last posted but never enough hours in the day, So what have I been doing? well TRAILER are planning their first single release with Fin records which is being mastered in Holland as we speak, this should be June time to tie up with the bands suppoport slot with THE MUSIC @ Covstock www.covstock.co.uk .TRAILER will be supporting Gary Numan on 24th July at The Kasbah in Coventry.They are also haveing top DJ/producer Dustin Skilles in the US remixing a track and word is its amazing.

FIORI have just been in the studio to record 2 tracks for an LA based lable and have just recruited a new drummer as untill now Myke from TRAILER was on sticks. Over the weekend FIORI had 2 gigs, one of which was a heat for G Factor which is a Coventry based competition for bands to play at this years Godiva Festival. Fiori got through to the final on May 25th and will now play at the Godiva Festival on Friday 4th July if they win the final on May 25th they will play on the main stage with headline act The Enemy.

KING HERMIT have had quite a few gigs with a support slot to FOUR DEAD IN OHIO from the Fierce Panda stable, KH are booked in to record up in Liverpool on 28th June.KING HERMIT will also be at this years Covstock supporting THE MUISC.

WAITING FOR WORDS are rehearsing for gigs in Paris and London this year, while also recording new material for an upcoming album.

Ben Arthur continues his US tour and will soon be booking dates in the UK so if you have never seen Ben before then keep a close eyes for dates in September.

So as you can see, very very busy but all good fun and not a mentalist in sight!!!!! yet.

RockerBaby are 4 Rocktastic girls currently tipped to be the hottest group this year! Already having radio play with their explosive self-penned quirky rock/pop tunes influenced by the 1980's electro sound & with numerous high profile "LIVE" performances at venues such as the famous "Ministry of sound" (Yes that's right they DON'T mime!) TV appearances includes BBC TV show "Let me Entertain you" which happened to be the very FIRST gig let alone TV show the quartet had EVER sang together on to which they ended up winning! Not a bad start hey?!!!

"If you're going to do something you've got to do it big", quotes front man Mofo in every interview Trailer do. It has become somewhat of a motto for the band. Trailer are a band who never settle for second best, which has been the key to their coming together and growth as a band. They play their own brand of music labelled ‘Atmospheric Dance Rock Fusion’ and are confident that you won’t have heard anything quite like it before.

Fronted by the double headed vocal beast of towering peroxide Arthur Gatfield and flame haired glamour boy Dave Ryder, Fiori make rock music for people to dance to. Musical influences include Guns N’Roses, Marilyn Manson, MC5 and Elvis while looking like the New York Dolls in Hollywood. But, behind all the eyeliner, hairspray, snake hip posturing and back stage kissing Fiori know what matters; it’s all about the music.

Every  now and then a song comes along and stops you in your tracks,  Ben Arthur's - Beautiful Day In LA is just that song.
If there is any A&R watching this now and can tell me it wont be a huge hit? then they are in the wrong job. Ben is unsigned and has been over looked for way to long. This video was made by a fan in Liverpool and makes you see both sides of a lovely city....

This: a feature whereby I offer ten tips to readers of the site as to how to get yourself established as an A&R man and how to survive in the UK industry.

1
Become the King of ‘Six Degrees of Separation’. There is no one you don’t know; only a route to everyone you haven’t quite figured out yet.

Get into the office early. In A&R this only means before noon. Read Billboard and Music Week before anyone else has. Pass articles off as obscure bits of gossip you’ve picked up personally.

Read other people’s post and email. David Geffen used to steam open letters at the William Morris agency. In most industries this is called mail fraud and is punishable by a jail sentence. In the music business it is called ‘initiative’ and is rewarded by cash and promotion.

Always have an opinion. A piece of music is never just ‘OK’. It is either an atrocity on a par with the Holocaust or the greatest piece of genius since Bob Dylan first strung two chords together.

When in the studio always make the vocals louder. Always brutally edit lengthy intros. Remember Roxette’s fine maxim: ‘Don’t Bore Us – Get To The Chorus’.

In meetings say everything with total certainty and as though your life depended on it. Don’t worry about making crazy, outlandish predictions that have no chance of becoming reality. If you have enough hits no one will dare bring up the mountain of arse you talked a few months back. If you don’t have hits you’re finished anyway, so who cares?

Play nice with the rank and file. If you are seen to be kind to the losers from the mail room, the car pool, the accounts department et cetera, people will (mistakenly) think you are a decent person. When such people offend you make the arrangements to have them fired quietly and behind closed doors. Go so far as to sympathise with them when they come crying to you to tell you they’ve been fired.

Be magnanimous in success. Humility goes a long way. When you are having a number one, go quietly about your business with a benevolent smile on your face. All the while, of course, you will be thinking, “you are all going to pay”, while mentally preparing to wreak your terrible revenge on those who doubted you when you weren’t having hits.

Forget music biographies. Read up on great dictators: Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Blair. It’s all good on empire building, which is, of course, what the music industry is really about.

Also, generally, bone up on interests outside music: literature, cinema, art et cetera. This knowledge can be useful when it comes to signing bands as songwriters and musicians eat that kind of shit up and it shows that you’re a decent, sensitive human being and not just a cash-and-power-obsessed psychopath. Of course, if you genuinely are a decent, sensitive human being and not a cash-and-power-crazed psychopath then what the fuck are you doing working in A&R anyway? Piss off and run a Tofu farm somewhere...

There is a saying ''No sleeping on tour'' well the last few weeks has seen me have very little, but all great fun. Last week TRAILER played a blinding set @ WaterRats, not the best turn out but those that were there had a great night.

Last Thursday I hit London again to hear an old hero of mine from the 80s, Jon Stevens was the lead singer of Noiseworks from Australia, he also fronted INXS for 4 years. On a week where news of thousands of Job cuts at EMI it seems strange to big up music, its is important but not at the loss of someones job.

Motorola, who want to license the cover of Edible Darling for an upcoming worldwide print and television ad campaign for their E8 mobile/iPod thingy. No guarantees, but would be very cool if it came through.

In other news the new album, Mouthfeel, will be released in the US this spring (it was released in the UK in September and we've seen some nice national and regional airplay over there, including it being picked as "Album of the Week" on Seaside 105 in rural Northeast England, an honour that involved my getting up at 4AM last week for a groggy drive-time interview.) I'll also be publishing my first novel this spring, Ballad of a Burning Man.

Fiori are a 4 piece from Nuneaton who have been together for 5 years now, lots of local success stories and even featured in a VH1 tv commercial. The new sound has seen them evolve in to the finshed article. hear more @  www.mysmyspce/fiorirock
